PAS has requested the speaker of Parliament to expedite the reading of its Private Member’s Bill on hudud so that it done at this sitting.

Its president Abdul Hadi Awang had submitted the bill to amend Syariah law and allow hudud implementation in Kelantan yesterday.

“We have spoken to the speaker and we await his decision,” he said.

Hadi also said it was “normal in democracy” for those to oppose the bill, including Pakatan allies but also welcomed support from any side including Umno.

“We have agreed to accept all views including those who support and oppose it. It is important for all Muslims to agree including those from Umno and PAS,” he added.

However, the bill has come under fire from various factions including DAP, where its parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang ( right ) had said he was “shocked and dismayed” with the decision to proceed with the bill.

Hadi also took a massive dig at Pakatan Rakyat allies, DAP and PKR for recent criticisms over his party’s attempts to implement hudud.

“In our (PAS) journey in Pakatan, there have been several decisions that DAP and PKR have done without PAS’ knowledge.

“It is Kelantan’s right to submit this law. There is no need (for criticism) as a decision on this was made several years ago,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
