The MIC will work hard to deliver a minimum of 3,000 Indian votes in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election on May 7, said MIC deputy president Dr S Subramaniam.

"We have 4,830 Indian voters there... the bulk of Indian voters are in Seberang Jaya and we have more than 500 voters each in five polling districts," he told reporters after officiating the My Career Fair 2015 in Petaling Jaya.

Subramaniam, who is also the health minister pointed out that there were about 500 people working on the ground from the party's 23 branches in the MIC division there.

The by-election will see Suhaimi Sabudin (BN), PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Azman Shah Othman (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Salleh Ishak (Independent) involved in a four-cornered fight.

The Permatang Pauh by-election is being held after incumbent Anwar Ibrahim was disqualified when the Pardons Board rejected his family's petition for a royal pardon for his sodomy conviction.

On Feb 10, the Federal Court upheld the five-year jail sentence against Anwar, 68, after he was found guilty on charges of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
