The evidence is there, but MACC won't see

YOURSAY ‘Rakyat not blind even if Tunku Abdul Aziz thinks they are.’

MACC adviser: I did not dismiss PM's wealth report

SRMan: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) adviser Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim, you commented that Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching should know that MACC has always conducted its investigations into cases that may contain elements of corruption fairly, independently, and professionally. Really?

MACC is known to drag its feet on reports against members of the ruling government but act at lightning speed against opposition members, even for a trivial sum of a mere RM2,000. You called those actions "fairly and independently?”

Two men under their investigations had already plunged to their death from its buildings under mysterious circumstances. And its investigating officers had been found watching pornography on the night one of the poor victims died.

And you still think that MACC is professional? Tunku Abdul Aziz, don’t even boast about your 30 years of experience in anti-corruption and good governance.

SteveOh: This 'show me the evidence and I will act ' approach makes a mockery of all investigative work. Do you think every time the police haul suspects into the police station that they have the evidence?

No wonder, Tunku Abdul Aziz didn't have much to show after 30 years. And no wonder you don't see many big fish caught in the anti-corruption net.

The smoking gun isn't going to fall into anyone's lap. You have to investigate - interview, search, rely on intelligence and gather the evidence for a court conviction.

White-collar criminals know how to cover their tracks but there is no perfect crime, only imperfect detection. MP Teo is on to something and it may be a fat cat.

Ipohcrite: According to Tunku Abdul Aziz, the MACC had always conducted its investigations fairly, independently, and professionally.

The rakyat, however, know that this statement is light years away from the truth. The rakyat are not blind even if Tunku Abdul Aziz thinks they are.

He can't ignore the fact that whistleblowers have been systematically vilified and prosecuted when political bigwigs are reported to the authorities.

Bystander: Tunku Abdul Aziz, if say a teacher who is not from a super-rich family somehow drives a Ferrari and use a genuine Birkin handbag and Hublot diamond watch, shouldn't Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and MACC be interested to find out more about this individual?

If not, then we may as well dispense of the MACC.

Slumdog: Wasn’t the investigation and interrogation of Teoh Beng Hock (TBH) based on suspicion that his boss had corruptly used RM2,500?

Wasn’t the MACC collecting evidence by interviewing TBH? So Tunku Abdul Aziz, why are you and the MACC refusing to commence an investigation into the prime minister and his wife’s wealth?

You are perpetuating the overwhelming belief that there is one law for Umno members and its supporters and another for the rest of the rakyat.

Odin: Tunku Abdul Aziz, I will tell you that the evidence you need is right there in front of your nose - the lifestyle of the ‘first family’ does not commensurate with income.

It is a lifestyle that suggests possession of wealth far, far greater than what the suspect could have amassed by legitimate means. And pray tell, what you have achieved in your 30 years of involvement in the movement. Swatting a thousand mosquitoes, perhaps?

Anonymous_1421406986: Teo Nie Ching, why is an investigation necessary in the first place? Is it not to pursue a line of suspicion, confirmed or otherwise?

In this instance, we are accusing someone of accumulating an inordinate amount of wealth by corrupt means. If it were by clean means, you would not have bothered to file for such an investigation.

So in your mind, Najib's wealth, is acquired through corrupt means. Is that not why you want MACC to investigate it?

So why don't you make a police report instead of filing a report with MACC. Get as many political leaders to report their suspicion with the police. The police will have to act.

Don't blame Tunku Abdul Aziz for not acting on your suspicion if you cannot provide solid evidence.

Onyourtoes: I have said all along it is useless to form and appoint so many people to the advisory panels in MACC. It is so easy, we can determine the credibility of MACC based whom they appoint. We are not born this morning, so don't bull around.

Abasir: Great point Onyourtoes. Why does a body constituted to weed out corruption need so many advisers? What do they actually do other than serve as window dressing, legitimise inaction and collect allowances?

Has the scourge of corruption in all its multifaceted ways gone done in any measurable way since their appointment? And why do we have to put up with the periodic crap emanating from these experienced advisers who sit grinning on the sidelines as scams like 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) and the killings such as those involving A Kugan and Altantuya Shaariibuu are covered up?

It was reported in Malaysiakini that six ' unusually rich ' Navy personnel have been transferred out.

Using that as a guideline, shouldn't the ‘unusually rich’ PM Najib Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor (who shamelessly and fearlessly flaunt their billions) be also "transferred out" of the premiership and Putrajaya?

KayL: "If there is evidence, surely the MACC will conduct an investigation," said Tunku Abdul Aziz.

We have heard statements to this effect being made by investigating authorities over and over again. I find the logic in such statements very weird.

Isn't the very purpose of an investigation is to search (no stones to be left unturned) for evidence?

Firestone: Tunku Abdul Aziz, stop being an apologist for the PM. No need to spin, just answer why is MACC not even investigating? Period.

Ben-ghazi: No point asking to investigate an 'untouchable' person. It won't happen here.
