Rosmah Mansor was the butt of jokes at Pakatan Rakyat's ceramah against the goods and services tax (GST) in Permatang Pauh last night.

At the ceramah in Seberang Jaya, PAS' Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar said many women expressed their grievances to him for having to fork out six percent GST for their sanitary pads .

"They said, 'We don't get paid for sleeping with our husbands every night but every month, we need to fork out money to pay the six percent GST for our pads'," he said to much laughter.

"I only want to ask (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) one thing: How much did he pay to charter the Malindo flight to carry his guests to his daughter's wedding in Kazakhstan?" he queried at the ceramah.

He was referring to the wedding of Nooryana, Najib and Rosmah's daughter, to Daniyar Kessikbayev, which was held in Kazakhstan recently.

As Mahfuz was leaving the stage after his speech, the emcee for the night, PKR central committee member Fariz Musa, blurted out an off-color remark: "He (Najib) does not care about sanitary pads because his wife does not need it anymore."

Popular reference to big hairdo

Jokes, especially about Rosmah, elicited much response and laughter from the 500-strong crowd who attended last night's event.

The hot topic at Pakatan campaigns is GST and the crowd usually responds well to opposition politicians' anecdotes and explanations on why they have to strongly object the tax, implemented by the BN-led federal government on April 1.

Pakatan has been promoting the march against GST, held in conjunction with the workers' day rally on May 1.

The mega gathering will be held in Kuala Lumpur and Seberang Jaya tomorrow, although police are trying to foil the attempt by thousands to converge.

During his turn to speak, PAS deputy chief Mohamed 'Mat' Sabu also took the opportunity to take a swipe at Rosmah, who has often been criticised for her lavish lifestyle.

News reports on her mentioning the cost of hairdo having increased to RM1,200 continued to rear its head in anti-BN speeches.

Mat Sabu was explaining how PKR candidate Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was a good wife and mother in bringing up her daughters.

He named the daughters individually, but forgot the youngest one, and someone in the crowd shouted, 'Rosmah'.

"Hoi! Don't ever say such a dirty word," Mat Sabu shouted back, much to the crowd's delight.

"Azizah never changed. Whether she was the wife of a deputy prime minister, or now as just Anwar Ibrahim's wife, she never wore a big hairdo," he added.

Tough four-corner fight

Anwar was sacked from his DPM post and jailed for six years, from 2001 to 2007, for abuse of power related to his first sodomy charge.

Azizah is facing a tough fight in her fourth battle for the Permatang Pauh seat.

She is facing Umno's Suhaimi Sabudin, PRM's Azman Shah Othman and Salleh Isahak, the independent candidate.

The PKR president became a candidate for the seat again after her family failed to obtain a royal pardon for the early release of Anwar from the Sungai Buloh prison, where he is serving a five-year jail term for a sodomy conviction.

Permatang Pauh goes to the polls on May 7, with early voting on May 3.

Another speaker, PKR's Kuala Langat MP Abdullah Sani  poked fun at the number of flower decorations used for Najib's daughter's wedding in Kuala Lumpur.

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had claimed in a blog posting that there were rumours that the decorations cost some RM3 million.

Abdullah claimed the fresh flowers were imported from Holland.

"Usually, at our weddings, we just place flowers on the right and left of the aisle or stage, but Rosmah's daughter's wedding hall was full of flowers," he said.

"There were more flowers than people! That's our money," he exclaimed.

In constrast, Abdullah said Azizah was a symbol of "peace".

"She is a mother to all. Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said she is not fit to be the Permatang Pauh MP.

"Muhyiddin, your record is as bad as Najib's, don't show off. Azizah is squeaky clean, or else you would also drag her to court as you did her husband Anwar," he added.

Wan Azizah was not around during the three-hour-long ceramah, arriving only later and delivered a speech which showed her in fighting form .

'MPs don't interrupt Wan Azizah'

Pakatan has also roped in comedian Man Kadir for the Seberang Jaya ceramic.

The funnyman acted as Pak Jabit in the Malay horor filem 'Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah', shown in cinemas in December 2010.

The film is about Husin who returns to his village in Kampung Pisang, and finds his neighbour Kak Limah, acting strangely. The female character also has a big and messy hairdo.

Man Kadir said: "Don't be afraid of Hantu Kak Limah. Be afraid of Rosmah; she eats the GST".

Comparing Rosmah to Wan Azizah ( right ), Man Kadir added that the PKR president would be suitable for parliament as when she served there between 1999 to July 2008, no one dared confront her.

"When it was her turn to speak, Najib would just leave and go to the canteen to have his tea.

"She may be gentle and soft-spoken but no ones dares to interrupt her or dare look up when she speaks," he said.
