YOURSAY  ‘This is a litmus test on the professionalism of the IGP.’

Apologise for calling IGP 'barua', cops tell Azmin

Grey Matter: Why can't the Gazetted Officers Branch of the Senior Police Officers Association make a police report against the inspector-general of police (IGP) for not acting professionally and without fear or favour?

How come they are blind to the biasness of the IGP? Selangor MB Azmin Ali is only questioning the IGP and is not blaming the rest of the force.

So can this association explain why the IGP's brother was treated differently compared to opposition leaders? In fact, even the home minister has concluded that the action of the IGP’s brother was seditious , so why has he not been charged under the Act?

This is a litmus test on the professionalism of the IGP.

Tholu: The police, instead of asking Azmin to apologise, should explain and prove to Azmin and the general public that they are no lackey to anyone.

Quote incidences that would make the people acknowledge the fact that the police force is unbiased and neutral and enforces the country’s laws equally on the populace without being influenced by factors such as race, religion, social status and political inclinations.

If they can do that, they would amply shame and deride Azmin, and this would be better than demanding an apology from him.

However, the ostensible disparity in the implementation of the laws, particularly on people issuing “seditious” remarks makes the police to appear to be taking instructions from their political masters.

People are wondering about the police’s inaction against the incendiary and rabble-rousing statements and actions by individuals and groups such as Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Ibrahim Ali, Mashitah Ibrahim, Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, Perkasa, Isma and the ‘cross’ protesters.

Dr Suresh Kumar: I agree that as menteri besar, Azmin should be mindful of his language especially when he is addressing the general public which may have families with young children as his audience.

However, these senior police officers should take a little time and reflect upon themselves and ask this question; did not the IGP himself brought this upon himself by his selective application of the law process and the crystal clear double standards that he is using against those who are not in agreement with him or the government?

Lone_Star: Does one need to apologise for asking a burning pertinent question? Why is asking a question considered to be insulting and defamatory?

Tikusmati: Dear senior police officers, whoever you are. Can you answer whether your actions so far have been fair?

If so, please provide clear details so that the public know how you operate and surely they will then give you the respect you deserve and crave. But for now, no one deserves respect if they do not do their duty in accordance with the rule of law.

Iiiizzzziiii: The conduct of the police of late has been a reflection of what many have perceived them to be. So, they did it to themselves and nobody is to be blamed.

The blatant bias and double standard of the police, especially the IGP, have been a concern to many, not just locally but also internationally. And we need someone brave enough to voice it.

Victor Johan: Didn't the IGP quite recently mention that he is a lawyer too, and can make his own interpretation as well.

But in this case, can the IGP inform his 'protector', the chairperson of the Gazetted Officers Branch of the Senior Police Officers Association, Shah Gzali Khan Shahadad, that Azmin had only ask a question to seek clarification if the IGP is indeed an Umno lackey.

Maybe the IGP can just answer Azmin's question without any funfair. The entire nation is waiting for it.

CQ Muar: Shah Gzali, with regard to your hope that Azmin should be more "cultured, polite and decent", rightfully, the rakyat should be asking Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to also to be more cultured, polite and decent.

Random arrest against those at the peaceful rally is not deemed as insult and injustice? What about the IGP's brother, Abdullah Abu Bakar, leading a band of hooligans to take down a religious symbol such as a cross?

Shah, you seem to pay attention on IGP's ‘reputation’ more than others. What's the catch? Hoping to receive recommendations and benefits for your display of ‘loyalty’?

Azmin was merely asking a question if the IGP was a ‘barua’ (lackey) of Umno. Can this be more embarrassing, insulting and degrading than being handcuffed, made to wear prison outfit without sandals and detained?

Kee Thuan Chye: Azmin never called Khalid the IGP a 'barua'. He merely asked if Khalid was behaving like one for BN. Big difference.

Well, Khalid has already shown he failed comprehension when he misread Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua's ‘royal, my foot’ tweet, so one can assume his subordinates are similarly comprehension-challenged.

In that case, no worries lah , this case will not go anywhere. The Attorney-General's Chambers and the courts - if it should come to that - are surely better at comprehension.

Abasir: Put aside the question whether the IGP is an Umno lackey, he has not answered an earlier question whether he lied about sending policemen to Sydney to question fugitive Sirul Azhar Umar. That makes it two questions.

So may we correctly conclude that this man is a questionable character unfit for any position that calls for absolute integrity? That makes it three questions.
