An application by Lenggeng assemblyperson Ishak Ismail to rescind the bankruptcy order against him will be heard by the Seremban High Court on June 30.

This was decided following a meeting between the parties before senior assistant registrar Nur Syarawati Arifin in court this afternoon.

According to Ishak's lawyer CS Murthi, both sides will have to file their affidavits on the matter.

"The matter is fixed before Justice Kamaludin Mohd Said for hearing on June 30," he said when contacted by Malaysiakini .

Yesterday, it was reported that Ishak ( photo ) was declared a bankrupt for being a guarantor for a RM2 million loan which had been defaulted upon.

The order declaring Ishak a bankrupt was made by the Seremban High Court on March 18 and Ishak is said to have received the order on April 27.

The 64-year-old Ishak claimed he had already paid RM1.2 million and the veteran politician claimed creditors were out to  publicly humiliate him.

Electoral laws stipulate that an elected representative loses a seat once he or she exhausts all avenues to set aside a bankruptcy order.

Ishak was also declared a bankrupt in 2007 resulting in him not being able to contest in the 2008 general election.
