Sushi firm claims trial to soft drink price hike
A sushi company was charged in the Sessions Court in Shah Alam today under the Price Control and Anti Profiteering Act 2011, with increasing the price of a soft drink at its business premises.
Sushi Kin Sdn Bhd, represented by its director Law Hwee Ching, 45, claimed trial.
The company allegedly raised the price of Ice Green Tea (one litre) from RM1 to RM3.30 at its premises on the ground floor, Giant Hypermarket Subang Jaya on April 3.
The charge under Section 14(1) and punishable under Section 18(a) of the Act, carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, and for a repeat offence, RM1 million, upon conviction.
Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid set June 25 for re-mention.
Earlier, counsel Jason Tan applied for a longer period before the next mention, as he had to contact six other directors of the company about the charge.
“Two of the directors are in Japan, two in Penang and three in Kuala Lumpur. The board of directors needs to hold a meeting as the case involves the law and new technical issues such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST),” he said.
The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor A Karthiyayini.
