Today is the 100th day of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s imprisonment, which his supporters will be observing by gathering outside the Sungai Buloh prison gates in Selangor tonight.

Anwar, once the Permatang Pauh MP and leader of the opposition, was sentenced to a five-year prison term by the Court of Appeal on charges of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

He began serving his term on Feb 10 after the Federal Court upheld the Court of Appeal conviction and sentence. The charismatic politican has maintained that he is innocent.

His daughter, Nurul Nuha Anwar, has urged supporters to come and show solidarity with Anwar tonight.

“We call on everyone to join us, in unison against this unjust incarceration,” Nurul Nuha had told reporters on Friday when announcing the event .

She also heads the ‘March 2 Freedom’ campaign to push for her father’s freedom.

Today's event is not the first show of solidarity with the jailed leader on the optimistically named ‘Jalan Harapan’ outside the prison gates.

For several nights immediately after the controversial February verdict, hundreds of supporters gathered peacefully with candles, banners and speeches under the watchful eyes of prison guards in riot gear.
