Police will record statements from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and several individuals to complete investigations over an alleged negative remark against inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

Penang police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said their statement would be recorded soon following the alleged statement used on Khalid during the Permatang Pauh Parliament by-election campaign.

“To date, statements from 15 individuals have been recorded in the case that involves Azmin, who is also the Selangor menteri besar, and we are going to take more statements from several individuals including Azmin to complete the probe.

“I believe we will complete it soon for further action to be taken,” he told reporters after the Penang Police Contingent’s monthly assembly in George Town today.

Mohamed Azmin was alleged to have called Khalid “barua Umno” (lackey for Umno) during the by-election campaign.

Earlier, Abdul Rahim handed over the Penang Police Contingent Exemplary Mother award to Sergeant Suriati Attan from Bukit Tengah police station, who is a single mother of six children.

He congratulated her for sacrifices she made to raise the children amid her busy schedule and tasks as a policewoman.

“Two of her children are studying in public universities while her four other children have excelled in school. The Penang Police Contingent is proud to give her the award this year to set an example for other mothers to emulate,” he said.
