Will Muhyiddin urge Najib's sacking, too?

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the sacking of 1Malaysia Development Berhad's (1MDB) board of directors over the company's massive RM42 billion debt, but will he also ask his boss Najib Abdul Razak to step down?

This was raised by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang who questioned whether Muhyiddin was willing to do the same with Najib if it is revealed that the prime minister was responsible for 1MDB's debt fiasco.

"Would Muhyiddin propose the sacking of Najib as prime minister if Najib is responsible for all the major decisions taken by the 1MDB board in the RM42 billion 1MDB scandal?" he said in a statement today.

He also queried whether Muhyiddin has made clear on his position in the cabinet.

"When will he make a decision to resign from the cabinet and as deputy prime minister unless the 1MDB Board is sacked and the police called in to investigate the scandal?" he said.

Lim also questioned whether other ministers in the cabinet share the same position as Muhyiddin but have avoided taking an official position on the matter.

This is after a video of Muhyiddin's closed door meeting with Umno grassroots leaders last Saturday was leaked where he was seen demanding the resignation of the 1MDB board of directors for amassing such a huge debt.

He also urged the police to probe the 1MDB board and dismissed prposals that the company be given more time, an official position by Putrajaya.

Muhyiddin said he had conveyed his advice to Najib but nothing happened. However, he stressed he was not out to oust the prime minister.

At a press conference in Parliament today, Muhyiddin confirmed the authenticity of the video but said it was his personal view.

"The whole situation is getting to be very farcical, if not for the brutal reality that it involves RM42 billion of the Malaysian taxpayers’ money," said Lim, who described Muhyiddin's reaction as "extraordinary".
