Former minister Zaid Ibrahim today praised Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for "breaking his silence" on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) by calling for the company's board of directors to be sacked and investigated.

"Congrats, Muhyiddin, for breaking your silence," wrote Zaid on Twitter .

In his subsequent tweets, Zaid asked whether it would be realistic for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to sack 1MDB's board of directors.

"Did Najib appoint them or was it someone else?" he asked.

Zaid was responding to a 7-minute video clip on Youtube which depicted Muhyiddin stating during a closed-door meeting of Umno leaders that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak did not heed his call to sack 1MDB's board of directors.

Muhyiddin said that the board deserved to be sacked because their actions had led to Najib having to shoulder the burden.

'Milan plot'

Meanwhile, Zaid also denied that he was responsible over rumours of a conspiracy to topple Najib that was hatched in Milan by Muhyiddin and other Umno leaders.

"As for Milan, I did not say there was a conspiracy. Just that several ministers met him (Muhyiddin) in Milan.

"There's no use for me to create slander on Umno's internal matters. Read what I wrote in my blog. About Nazri seething with anger ( melenting ), (that's) a different thing," he said.

Previously, Zaid wrote on his blog that Muhyiddin, ministers Nazri Abdul Aziz and Mustapa Mohamed, as well as former finance minister Daim Zainuddin had met in Milan to hatch a plan to topple Najib.

The leaked video clip of Muhyiddin's speech saw him denying this claim.

Nazri had denied this claim as well, stating that all ministers mentioned were in Milan on official duties.

"It's all lies and slander. Don't believe easily what's on social media," he said.
