Malaysia’s leading independent news portal Malaysiakini maintains its position as the most visited news website accessed via desktops or laptops in the country in the first quarter of this year.

Malaysiakini again claimed the top position in March 2015 with 1.12 million unique visitors, according to comScore’s Media Matrix report.

The monthly report in the first three months of the year shows Malaysiakini holding on to its number one spot, registering 1.25 million unique visitors in January and 1.17 million in February.

Star Online , which took the lead from Malaysiakini in the second half of last year, trailed closely behind. Both websites saw a downward trend of unique visitors but maintained their lead among the nation’s news portals.

Star Online recorded 1.16 million unique visitors in January and its numbers dropped slightly in February (1.07 million) and bounced back in March (1.11 million).

Meanwhile, The Malaysian Insider reached its one million mark to grab the third spot with 1.01 million visitors in March.

The Malaysian Insider has taken the number three spot from Harian Metro since February 2015.

ComScore Media Matrix report in March 2015 shows two Malay language portals Harian Metro and Sinar Harian jostling for the fourth spot.

Harian Metro registered 777,000 unique visitors, while Sinar Harian has 705,000.
