Guan Eng poses five questions for 'loyal' Hadi

Since PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has said that he is still with Pakatan Rakyat, DAP said today it has five 'simple questions' for him to prove his commitment.

Among the questions DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng asked was why did Hadi break PAS' commitment to the Pakatan common manifesto and his personal promise to consult with Pakatan leaders.

Lim said this was in relation to Hadi wanting to table a Private Member's Bill on hudud implementation in Parliament.

"Also, why did the Hadi express support for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in the midst of the RM42 billion 1MDB scandal?" asked Lim further.

Hadi had previously said that Najib be allowed to solve the problems he is facing and continue being the prime minister as he was democratically elected.

Meanwhile, Lim ( photo ) further queried why Hadi wanted to form a national unity government with Umno.

Hadi, in a 'Bicara Harakah' programme last week, said the idea of a unity government was agreed upon by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat after the Perak constitutional crisis. PKR, however, has denied that Anwar had ever agreed with the idea.

"And why did he refuse to express support for PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in the recent Permatang Pauh by-election?" Lim further asked.

DAP being unfairly blamed

The Penang chief minister also wanted to know why did Hadi declare that it was an obligation for PAS Muslims to be angry with the DAP for opposing hudud laws, without mentioning other Muslims, non-Muslims, Sabahans and Sarawakians who had also opposed hudud laws.

"Opposition to hudud laws is based on it being unconstitutional, not because hudud is part of Islam but because hudud is contrary to the Federal Constitution," Lim pointed out.

"Hadi’s pronouncements are not consistent with being loyal and supportive of Pakatan. If Hadi cannot keep his promises, how then can DAP cooperate with Hadi on the basis of mutual trust and respect?" Lim queried.

Apart from Hadi ( photo ), Lim claimed other PAS senior leaders had also avoided answering these five questions and were "trying to blame DAP for any break-up in Pakatan".

"For asking these five simple questions, some PAS leaders have attacked DAP more viciously than they have attacked Umno.

"However, DAP must be consistent in our principles by asking the same five questions not only after the next PAS muktamar but before as well," he said.

Lim, who is also Bagan MP, had earlier said the DAP was proud of its record of not interfering in another political party’s internal elections.

Nevertheless, Lim said the party would not be 'cowed into silence' by PAS and would  continue to speak up 'for the truth and defending right from wrong'.
