Felda will bear 30 percent payment of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans to the children of settlers who graduate from their diploma and first degree courses.

 

This was announced after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Felda and PTPTN at Felda Tower today.

 

Felda general manager Hanapi Suhada said he was instructed by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to provide more help to the younger generation.

 

"The premier told me that Felda needs to think of ways to help young people. 

 

"We think the best way to benefit young people is through cooperating with PTPTN," he said.

He said to date, RM16 million have been spent to fund 1,825 new students at insititutes of higher learning.

He said the 30 percent subsidy will be paid to PTPTN and the body will then take this portion out of the students' loan.

The subsidy will only be for new students who enrolled in local universities starting January 1, 2014.

 

PTPTN chairman Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who was also present, said he hopes other government agencies and private firms can do the same so education can be accessed by all.
