DAP gives new Johor PAS head cold shoulder

Johor DAP has vowed not to work with newly appointed Johor PAS head Mahfodz Mohamed.

According to Johor DAP chairperson Liew Chin Tong, Mahfodz, as the head of the Dewan Ulama, was responsible for Dewan Ulama's resolution calling for PAS' central committee and Syura Council to cut ties with DAP.

This resolution was later adopted by PAS' main muktamar last weekend.

Upon being appointed Johor PAS leader yesterday, Mahfodz said that it would be business as usual between Johor PAS and DAP until the syura council makes a decision.

In response, Liew said that this contradictory position held by Mahfodz made the relationship between the two parties untenable.

"All of a sudden, he now wishes to cooperate with Pakatan Rakyat. I think (by doing so) he has no integrity.

"I see no space for cooperation with Mahfodz," said Liew, in a Facebook post in Chinese .

Liew ( photo ) added that Johor DAP would refine its decision after the party's central committee meeting on Monday night.

The resolutions passed during PAS' muktamar was in response to DAP's decision to cut ties with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

DAP had accused Abdul Hadi of refusing to attend Pakatan Rakyat leadership meeting and acting unilaterally in pursuing the implementation of hudud law, which was not part of the coalition's common policy framework.

However, many PAS delegates took this as an attack on PAS itself, because the party is based on Islamic teachings.
