With Pakatan’s death comes rebirth and renewal
YOURSAY ‘A newly-aligned Pakatan must arise to win mandate to rule country.’
DAP seeks new allies after Pakatan's 'death'
Kim Quek: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is only stating the obvious - that the Pakatan Rakyat partnership ended with PAS Muktamar 2015.
There is no point whipping a dead horse by trying to revive a defunct pact. The sooner we accept this reality, the better.
Henceforth, PKR and DAP must work closely together to plan their moves forward, particularly in the incorporation of the anticipated new party spearheaded by the progressives of PAS.
The new party is expected to win over the majority of current PAS members and supporters who are bound to be enlightened of the new reality that PAS, as a political party, is a dead duck with no hope of winning any future elections, now that it has been transformed into a parochial religious movement - rather than functioning as an inclusive political party - under the treacherous leadership of its president Abdul Hadi Awang.
No non-Muslim would vote for such a party. With the next election still another two to three years away, there should be enough time for the newly-aligned Pakatan to recoup its lost ground due to the betrayal of Hadi, and win the next mandate to rule the country.
Eyespye: It is inevitable. And I think DAP loses nothing by splitting with PAS. What's sad is, back when Pakatan lost GE13, I thought they wouldn't all stick together; I just didn't realise how acrimonious the break-up would be.
Ferdtan: This is exactly what PAS ulama have got themselves into - when they were left unprepared in their own scheme. They created a bogeyman out of DAP in the run-up to their party election. They won by completely wiping out all their party opponents.
Then they went further; with their turbaned egos inflated after the big win, they cut off ties with DAP without thinking properly of the implications. This is typical of the saying, “Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.”
Now DAP is obliging PAS; they declared that Pakatan is dead.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang not only got ‘whacked’ (to borrow the most sensational word that had been used against a prince) by DAP, but also from Umno in their hudud agenda to table the religious law in Parliament.
His dream of tabling the private hudud bill in Parliament with the support of Umno is shattered.
Culture and Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz has said that any bill related to religion must receive the green light from the Conference of Rulers before it is brought to Parliament.
Without the consent of the Agong, the hudud private bill that Hadi Awang wanted to table in the Parliament will die a natural death. Hadi, you won a pyrrhic victory. Serve you right.
Kuasa Rakyat: How can one talk about religion when one doesn't have principles or integrity? That's Hadi for you.
DAP and PKR and all those who truly want to promote a harmonious, united and progressive Malaysia should move on.
Myop101: This is the fate decided by PAS members anyway. Pakatan’s common policy framework requires give and take which PAS has been very unwilling to do.
Prudent: PAS, under Hadi's ulama, with their long robes hiding sharp elbows and knees and practicing treachery while promoting hudud, is an electoral dead duck.
The Analyser: "DAP would work with PKR and other forces that aspire to see the end of Umno and BN's one-party rule to reshape and realign Malaysian politics with the aim of winning Putrajaya for the people," said Guan Eng.
That's the goal Malaysians have all been desperate to read - the one goal, no philosophy, no outlook, no promises, no structure, no plan, no vision.
Welcome the power-crazed Chinese version of Umno.
Rupert16: It’s good that the PAS ulama yoke or millstone has been taken off from PKR-DAP coalition. Let's hope that the PAS progressives can rejoin the anti-Umno bandwagon.
Np: No matter how difficult the future can be for DAP, working with PAS under Hadi and the ulama is no longer a viable option. I hope that PKR will wake up in time before the voters punish them in next GE.
SSDhaliwal: Do not fret, PAS was a gangrene that needed to be removed.
Striking an alliance with PasMa is a step in the right direction as they can contest in Kelantan and wrest the state away from these Umno-beholden ulama.
Continue-The-March: That is the way to go, DAP. As a principled party, there is no way to cooperate and work with a PAS leadership that does not respect decisions made collectively and rescind decisions unilaterally, including back-stabbing his own deputy president and executive committee.
Hadi will go into history as a cheat, a liar, dishonourable person and a back-stabber. This is a momentary set-back for opposition, but will also be a catalyst to ramp forward to Putrajaya.
Rajakera: DAP and PKR should at once start wooing the Sabah and Sarawak native parties to form Pakatan Baru and they can still win the war. They may have lost the battle but do not give up on the war of all ages. Go Pakatan Baru.
Ablastine: Pakatan is no more than a name to the opposition coalition and its demise is of no great concern because the main players in the opposition are still very much alive and kicking.
It is in fact good that a new and stronger coalition emerge to take on Umno. Without the PAS ulama (but with PAS professionals/intellectuals) I foresee that the new coalition will be more formidable and acceptable to the electorate.
Frankly if Pakatan still exist with Hadi in PAS, Umno will win the next election hands down because the people hate Hadi more than Umno.
MW: Next coalition, whatever it's called, make sure principles are aligned instead of "agreeing to disagree".
For DAP, it’s good riddance to bad rubbish
