For DAP, it’s good riddance to bad rubbish

YOURSAY ‘The marriage of convenience has met its inevitable end.’

DAP seeks new allies after Pakatan's 'death'

Wira: This is the logical conclusion as a result of the passing of a resolution in PAS’ highest decision-making body to cease ties with DAP.

Those who think some arrangement for PAS and DAP to work together may still be possible without rescinding the resolution by the same body, are daydreaming.

If PAS works with Umno, they can only remain forever subservient to the corrupt party they aim to replace, since electoral peace will ensure that respective PAS and Umno seats are safeguarded from each other.

Moreover, PasMa, PKR and DAP will be after those very PAS seats won previously. The ulama faction took a dangerous gamble by getting rid of the progressives and entangled themselves in an unenviable position they may find difficult to dislodge from.

Anticonmen: Good riddance to bad rubbish. The PAS progressives can regroup and join Pakatan which will become much stronger without fanatics and fools.

Doc: Coalition partners are common occurrences in mature democracies where parties with different ambitions come together to achieve a common goal. Most often the sole aim of a coalition is to form a government, which was the case with Pakatan.

Unfortunately, coalition partners going their separate ways are also not uncommon in mature democracies when the goals of one party may be seen as too extreme by other coalition partners thus leading to a split.

In the 2010 UK election, the Conservatives invited the Liberal Democrats to make up the numbers in government. It was an uncomfortable alliance where the Conservative PM and Liberal DPM were seen disagreeing on numerous policy matters.

In the 2015 election, the Conservatives did well but the Liberal were decimate for being too compromising.

So, PAS leaving Pakatan at this stage maybe beneficial. PKR and DAP may do well in the next election riding on their multiracial approach, and PAS may or may not do well with their hudud stance.

Ksn: Now the choice for the voters worried about the future of Malaysia is very clear with the fanatical ulama out of Pakatan.

We have two parties PKR and DAP - non-racial, non-religious, to vote for to take Malaysia in the right direction to nation building - no abuses of any kind, all citizens enjoying their rights as citizens.

Let us all help towards that end - I mean those who love Malaysia.

Korkor: Indeed, now that the die is cast, the next step is to advise voters in constituencies that had cast their votes for PAS the last two GEs on what next to do.

Most non-Malay voters had voted PAS in a PAS vs BN situation but what’s next? Will there be a third choice?

This must be addressed fast as there is not much time to the next GE and we may even see a snap GE for the whole of Malaysia or maybe a re-election in Selangor.

SteveOh: The DAP, PKR and other political parties committed to justice for all and a Malaysia free from racial and religious and class bigotry, need to give up their small ambitions and overcome their petty personality differences in seeking a Malaysia for all.

How can the two walk together unless they agree? DAP and PKR cannot be unequally yoked with any political party with a narrow ideological vision like PAS.

The marriage of convenience has been exposed and met its inevitable end. Now is the time for the genesis of a new opposition coalition if the aim is to form the next government.

Proarte: We need a party of principled and decent individuals who will steer us from the morass which Umno, PAS and Anwar have landed us in.

Please do not for an instant betray the secular nature of our constitution by opportunistically teaming up with so-called Islamists who have diametrically opposed political views.

Malays are a pragmatic people and not given to extremism. If given a free choice, they will not touch PAS' prescription for Malaysia with a barge pole.

DAP must appeal to the 'moderate' Malays who form the vast majority and who cut across the social, economic and geographical divide. The rakyat is crying out for consistency, honesty and principle, and we hope the DAP will be principled guiding light.

All For Malaysia: The braggart is just waiting to kick PAS out. PAS had been polite about leaving Pakatan, but then again, the sound of the barbarians has been heard - they killed off the coalition, and that’s what barbarians do.

Jiminy Qrikert: DAP leader Lim Guan Eng is a braggart for sure. That's because he has lots to brag about. For starters, he went to jail defending the honour and rights of a young Malay girl victimised by the entire Umno leadership juggernaut.

Then, what about the houses DAP helped to build for the Kelantan flood victims while the ulama prayed? And the mosque . And how about Pak Samad joining DAP instead of the ‘ketuanan Melayu’ parties? That's real bragging rights.

Compared that to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, whose claim to fame is the betrayal of Anwar Ibrahim and PKR, sabotaging the Pakatan leadership, issuing racist threats and pushing for unity government with Umno.

Anticommunalist: The ruthless side of chauvinism rears its ugly side. DAP has realised that it has no use any longer for PAS and as such chosen to get rid of it as soon as possible, rightfully so, some may agree.

But rest assured, the kampung Malays may view it as arrogance. PKR also is of no use to DAP minus Anwar Ibrahim, hence the subtle threat of eventually even getting rid of PKR if it does not toe DAP's line.

Post-2008 GE, DAP has muscled its weight to get 'rid' of Hindraf and post-2013 GE, DAP has gotten 'rid' of PAS. Interesting developments.

It’s the end of Pakatan, Lim Guan Eng proudly proclaims. It may also be the end of DAP eventually.

Hamzah Paiman: Hadi has brought PAS to ruins. He did that in Terengganu and Kedah as he was successful in ruining the PAS government there. He tried it in Selangor also but failed as the Selangor government is still intact.

He killed all the progressives recently to ensure that PAS does not win a single seat the next election. I don’t know why the PAS members need him. Unless they have decided to lose badly in the next GE.

Hbasill: First thing first. Since Pakatan is dead, we like to see the immediate sacking of all PAS representatives in Penang. This must be done by June 30. Don’t wait any longer. Look to appoint new people immediately.

Sleepy: Now I can vote with peace of mind.

With Pakatan’s death comes rebirth and renewal
