YOURSAY ‘Remember PM Najib, you serve us, not the other way around.’
Shhh... don't air secrets, PM tells civil servants
Anonymous #20513663: Civil servants, for the sake of the country, I beg those of you who have crucial information to continue to leak it to the media. Without leaks, we would not have known about 1MDB.
I and all Malaysians know that you are taking great risks, especially with the signing of Akujanji.
And now this ‘keep your lips sealed’ announcement by the PM himself. We don't know who you are, but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You and we realise that unjust rules need to be disobeyed.
When this is all over, and BN is gone, we shall push for a Whistleblower Act. Please continue to leak financial scandals and anything you feel is not right, such as materials from BTN (Biro Tatanegara) 'training'.
Thank you, civil servants, for the leaks. Please continue - from a grateful citizen.
ABS: On the one hand, yes, if there are misdeeds, then let the whistleblowers expose .
But as in any organisation, you can't have loose lips run amok with information that is either unsubstantiated or not finalised/ready for distribution/publication.
Trying to present both as one and the same, and perhaps implying that people should blab all the time is disingenuous.
Anonymous #20513663: ABS, nobody is suggesting that civil servants leak everything. Only clear cases of wrongdoings need to be exposed.
May I also suggest, for civil servants who may be too afraid to leak at this time, please copy all documents you may have.
After the reported hard disk 'wipe' at 1MDB, as well as the actions of the BN after the fall of certain state governments, we can expect massive 'shredding' when BN loses power.
The rakyat will need your evidence to track wrongdoings.
Hplooi: Does anyone understand the distinction between the "executive" and the "government"?
Policy making by the political class (represented by the elected in government) and the executive (full-time civil servants managing and executing policy implementation) should be two independent branch of the same Malaysia Incorporated.
Any person from the policy-class who oversteps his mandate should be reported and any civil servant has a right not to obey orders which contravene standards of ethical behaviour.
Bender: What's with all these secrets? In democratic system, we the rakyat are the government, why should there be secrets that we should not know about?
Remember PM Najib Razak, you serve us, not the other way around. The toll charges "secret" shouldn't be a secret in the first place, unless of course the dealings involve skimming us for money so that you can enrich your cronies.
Justine Gow: The recent "leaks" indicate that civil servants may have lost trust in the current government.
Civil servants are also ordinary people whose lives are affected by the Goods and Services Tax (GST), high cost of living and increase in toll charges.
Under ordinary circumstances, such "leaks" are rare as most civil servants will not want to risk their jobs for nothing by releasing information classified as confidential by their bosses.
Hermit: Unlike ministers and heads of departments who live in castles, the rest of the civil servants are part of the rakyat.
The 300,000 of civil servants are also being squeezed by highway tolls, GST, and whatever levies.
The rakyat have been fooled that the money collected is for development, but the money is being channelled to pay for the loans taken out by 1MDB, a brainchild of Najib.
Anonymous_1408265047: It is extremely difficult to understand how a total lack of transparency is good for Malaysia.
It is hard to understand why covering up terrible things that occur or may occur could be good for Malaysia.
If Malaysia is to become a great nation it has to turn 180 degrees from the direction it is now heading and start being open and transparent in all its dealings with its people and other nations.
It must start by honouring its commitments under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which says all people, regardless of race or religion, must be treated fairly and equally.
At the moment, Malaysia has worked itself to the bottom of the scale in all measures of decency and equality.
Out of Time: The leaders of a great nation don’t feed off the people. They put the nation before themselves.
The civil servants of a great nation will only boast of the greatness of their country. Only corrupted leaders will want to hide everything and sealed the mouth of the civil servants.
Anonymous_1405775559: It seems like the Johor crown prince is right. Najib has everything to hide.
