Anwar: Pakatan parties' cooperation will go on

Pakatan Rakyat may be dead formally but lives on in substance, said former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who was instrumental in setting up the coalition that lasted for seven years.

"I have followed the latest developments that have impacted the formal Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

"However, in substance, the cooperation between the three parties at state and parliamentary level to oppose greed and injustices by BN still goes on," he said in a note made public by his lawyer and Subang MP R Sivarasa.

In February, Anwar was sentenced to five years in jail for sodomy, a charge he claims is politically motivated.

He was allowed out of Sungai Buloh prison today to attend a misconduct hearing by the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board against senior lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah where he is scheduled to testify.

Muhammad Shafee was the lawyer hired by the government to prosecute Anwar in the sodomy trial.

Anwar also urged the former Pakatan governments to uphold the rakyat's struggle.

Common policy reminder

"I urge our friends to focus on showing that Selangor, Penang and Kelantan care for the people's problems based on the Pakatan common policy framework.

"The rakyat is now burdened by the increase in the prices of goods and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax.

"Party leaders and NGOs must work together to demand change and reject BN's greed for power and corruption," he said.

On Tuesday, DAP announced that Pakatan was dead after PAS at its muktamar earlier this month passed a motion proposing the severing of ties with DAP.

Yesterday, PKR also formally acknowledged the dissolution of the coalition but said it will continue to work with PAS and DAP.
