Former national defender Serbegeth Singh has lamented the poor state of affairs in the national football team following the 6-0 drubbing by Palestine.

"The way things and results go, it seems the Football Association of Malaysia has dug a bottomless pit and are still busy with the shovel.

"Tactical naivety has been the theme with both the national team and the under 23 side too!" he exclaimed in a post in the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.

The former national defender, who is now the Johor football consultant, said the time has come to look abroad for technical and tactical expertise

"For heaven's sake, FAM, grow some courage and make decisions to show that you, despite the legendary incompetency, at least care (for the state of football)," he added.

FAM president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has expressed his willingness to step down if the football team continue to be on the slide.

Commenting on this today, FAM secretary-general Hamidin Mohd Amin said it is Tengku Abdullah's right as FAM president.

“If the president said so, then it should be viewed seriously. His feeling is the same as you (journalists) feel, that is if it is felt he should retire, he would do so,” he added.

Hamidin also described the crushing defeat to Palestine as "unacceptable".

"In my personal view it is difficult for me to accept the result. I told head coach, Dollah Salleh that our defence is terrible," he said.

"We should see things holistically as we should identify our weaknesses and rectify it as a team. FAM has given the best including paying bonuses to the players," he added.
