'Sovereign Johor' a satire with a grain of truth

YOURSAY ‘If only the PM and his stooges get to read this piece.’

Next stop, sovereign kingdom of Johor

David: Well done, RK Anand! A very well-written satirical piece, if only those people referred to in the article are able to read and understand the underlying sarcasm.

Secession is no trivial matter and to incur such a threat from the Johor royalty, it goes to show that the BN administration has failed miserably.

The powers-that-be have indeed lost direction and since the last general election (GE), it appears that everyone is in a ‘last call’ mode to plunder the country to the maximum, fearing that they will be out of power after the next GE.

Abasir: 'Going south' never sounded so good. Could Najib Abdul Razak's 'Endless Possibilities' also have included the grand shifting of the country's southern border to create a huge buffer between Ketuananland and the Little Red Dot? Vision 2020, here we come.

JD Lovrenciear: This satire is music to our ears. Beautiful, Anand. If only the PM and his stooges get to read this piece, reflect and learn. Ahh, just dreaming wishfully.

Whatsup: I enjoyed reading the article. The incumbents running the government have themselves to blame but yet they feel they are above the laws and everyone else, including the royalty, looking at the way they are treated and can do anything they like regardless.

When people show dissatisfaction, they lie and lie, and then jail everyone or cook up some evidence to jail them.

Umno has failed everyone (except their cronies and themselves). It’s time to pack up or be kicked out.

Oh Ya?: This article may be satirical, but in this context there is one big reason Johoreans would move north instead of other Malaysians moving south.

The most likely scenario of an independent Johor is that it will be ruled by an absolute monarchy, the same as Brunei and the Middle Eastern kingdoms.

And just like them, all the wealth will be vested in the monarchy and there is a high probability that it will not be a secular state but an Islamic state governed by hudud laws. Any takers?

Headhunter: I think the Johor princes have opened a Pandora’s box. Except for Sabah and Sarawak, no other states dare to talk about secession, especially not one under a sultan.

Now for the first time, a royal family dares to thumb its nose at Putrajaya and the response from Putrajaya has been meek. And this will have a ripple effect when other states will start to assert their own authority, and they should.

For too long, Putrajaya has been lording over the rest of us, robbing us of our resources and putting federal officers over more competent and qualified locals and acting like little Napoleons over every facet of our lives.

It's time for oil producing states to also make a firm stand that they should have total control over their oil money and get a fair share of the royalties.

BN politicians are all like sheep waiting for the shepherd to herd them instead of doing the job they are elected to do; looking after the interests of the rakyat instead of their own.

Baiyuensheng: There are just too many thieves and clowns in the central government and these put people off. The central government’s ‘ketuanan Melayu’ policies make decent people cringe.

Archaic policies of cutting hands and stoning were vigorously pursued without consideration of our constitution and the other communities.

The central government is not able to put its foot down, or I would rather say there are no clear direction and policies that can hold all rakyat together. The Najib government just let things slip by and hope for the best.

Johor may be better off - the same is true for both Sabah and Sarawak, if they go solo.

Truly Malaysian: The central government has indeed lost the plot. It is all about corruption, races and religion.

Hard-working normal people like us are made to suffer all kind of indignities in spite of paying lots of taxes. I will move to Johor. Daulat Tuanku.

Hermit: The arrogant Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz dares to declare that his government is protecting the royalty. What protection he is crowing?

His government can't even protect the sovereignty of Johor - they make a mess at the International Court of Justice and Pulau Batu Putih was given to Singapore for free.

The Analyser: For 800 years (almost to the day) freedom-loving men and women have been working against despotic-style royal governments.

In Malaysia, the fight has only been ongoing for 58 years, and during that time regressive governments have battled against the Magna Carta freedoms that the British bequeathed Malaysia in the constitution, wanting instead an Islamic caliphate that is no different from a despotic monarchy.

Np: If the BN government allows Kelantan to have a different law, then all states should start enacting their own laws. Very soon, each state can be totally independent.

Tok Karut: The Kingdom of Johor may take poetic respite that its wrath over the 1MDB scandal and Nazri's whacking pursuit of royals have no less invited an opinion of severance from this government, not the federation.
