Pakatan 'pengsan' but BN in 'tanah kubur'
PAS may have dismissed the demise of Pakatan Rakyat by stating that the coalition had merely "pengsan " (fainted), but DAP today said BN was in no better situation, describing the ruling coalition as being in a " tanah kubur " (cemetery).
DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said for this reason, he believes that the opposition can still take on BN based on Pakatan Rakyat's common policy framework even though the coalition itself no longer formally exists.
Lim used the example of Johor in the last general election, which he said at that time was seen as a BN stronghold but both DAP and PAS managed to make significant gains.
This, he said, was because of voters' desire for good governance, a prosperous economy, good jobs, schools, hospitals, efficient public transportation and the likes, instead of hudud.
"I believe these will remain the foremost concerns of the voters, whether in Johor or other states in Malaysia in the 14th General Elections.
"For this reason, I also believe that the hopes for achievement of Pakatan common policy objectives without Pakatan in the 14th general election is not impossible, as Umno/BN is in self-confessed terminal stages from being in ' wad biasa ' (normal ward), 'wad kecemasan ' (emergency ward), 'intensive care unit’ (ICU), and ' tanah kubur ' (cemetery)," he said in a statement today.
Lim said this in reference to the National Civics Bureau (BTN) slides that were accidentally uploaded on the internet, which asked whether BN was now in a normal ward, an emergency ward, in ICU, or a cemetery.
"This is most eloquent in revealing the mind and thinking of the Umno/BN strategists – and why they are doing their utmost to create division and splits in Pakatan Rakyat and PAS," he said.
BTN, which conducts compulsory programmes for undergraduates and civil servants, had been accused of using racism to generate support for the ruling coalition.
DAP on Tuesday declared the end of Pakatan after PAS earlier this month passed a motion at its muktamar proposing the severing of ties with DAP.
