Stop blaming others, Najib raps Palanivel
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said he will summon MIC President G Palanivel over the latter blaming the BN chairperson for MIC's leadership crisis.
In a strongly worded Twitter posting today, Najib said Palanivel should stop blaming others for his problems.
"I will summon G Palanivel to explain his reported comments at PWTC.
"He should stop blaming others and must abide by the decision of the courts (and) Registrar of Societies (ROS)," he said.
The ROS had ordered the MIC to hold re-elections, after its 2013 polls were declared null and void due to widespread allegations of malpractice.
During his speech at PWTC yesterday, Palanivel chastised Najib for siding with the ROS instead of supporting the MIC election results.
The embattled party chief held a show of force rallying roughly 4,000 of his supporters against his party rivals.
ROS troubles
During the gathering yesterday, Palanivel in a speech said that the party was forced to hold fresh polls due to the intervention by BN and Najib himself, reported Bernama .
“BN and the PM himself got involved in putting pressure on MIC to reject the results of our validated 2013 elections and for the party to take sides with our detractors,” he said when addressing the crowd that included 2,760 branch chairpersons.
On Dec 5 last year, the ROS had rejected the party’s elections in Nov 2013 due to numerous complaints on irregularities and fraudulence, and ordered new polls for the posts of three vice-presidents and 23 central working committee (CWC) members to be held.
On Feb 5 this year, ROS had redirected MIC to hold fresh polls for all elected posts between April and July, adding that the party must clean up the list of voters and branches established in 2012.
Trying to overturn the ROS’ decision, Palanivel, along with vice-presidents S Sothinathan and S Balakrishnan, former secretary-general A Prakash Rao and its director of strategy AK Ramalingam filed an applications in relation to the ROS’ directive for the party to hold fresh elections.
However, on June 15, the High Court dismissed the two judicial review applications and told the party to abide ROS’ earlier decision.
