Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will not bow to pressure urging Kuala Lumpur City Hall to tear down DAP signs in the city.

This follows the Penang City Council (MBPP) demolishing the Umno signage erected at the entrance of the Menara Umno building on Jalan Macalister in George Town.

“There has been pressure for me as the Federal Territories Minister to do a tit-for-tat. But I said ‘Why do you want to do a tit-for-tat?’

“We do not want to be very childish,” he said when met by reporters at Masjid Negara today.

He added that he was not clear on what happened in Penang, or if the Umno state division had obtained permission for its signage.

While he has promised no retaliation, Tengku Adnan, who is also Umno secretary-general, said he has ordered DBKL to probe the permits for all party signage in the capital.

“I have ordered DBKL to look at, not just DAP signs, but all (political party) signs,” he said.

Those who do not have a permit for their signage will be given two weeks to apply for one, before action is taken, Tengku Adnan said.

“We are a country with laws, it doesn’t matter if you’re Umno or DAP or any other party, you must obey the law.

“Don’t take the law into your own hands,” he added.
