PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has denied that members of the party will leave the party.

Asked about the possibility of PAS members leaving the party, Tuan Ibrahim said he believes that this would not occur.

“As long as we defend the strength of PAS, as long as we remain firm with Islamic policies and principles, we will remain strong,” Tuan Ibrahim told the PAS organ Harakahdaily today.

As for issues concerning the rakyat, Tuan Ibrahim promised that that the party would continue fighting for the people.

“What we need to realise is that the change that occurred during the recent muktamar was a signal for PAS to return to its original struggle, that is, the fight for Islam,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim ( photo ) admitted that there were a few aspects that had impacted PAS, the most obvious in the new leadership consisting of the ulama faction.

‘We need to sit down and formulate strategies to strengthen the combination of the ulama, professionals and activists in the party,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim also said he believes PAS would be a strong party and a party for the Malays in upholding the laws of Islam.

“Although there are problems, PAS must remain a strong party, especially with the membership of over one million members.

“Not only as a strong party in Pakatan Rakyat, but to be able to take over Umno’s role in contributing to the Malays,” he said.

The 61st PAS Muktamar early this month witnessed the total wipeout of the progressive faction.

This, in turn, further strained the PAS-DAP relationship, after the muktamar passed a motion for the Islamist party to sever its ties with DAP, which has since declared that the opposition coalition is dead .
