Palanivel insists he is still MIC boss
G Palanivel has maintained that he is still the MIC president, dismissing his rivals' claim that the Registrar of Societies (ROS) no longer recognises him as a party member.
According to Bernama , Palanivel said he has not received any correspondence from the ROS on his membership status.
"I don't want to go into this further. I will resolve this later, if needed," he said, after chairing what he described as the party's central working committee (CWC) meeting today.
Earlier today, Dr S Subramaniam claimed that he had received a letter from the ROS confirming that Palanivel is no longer a party member. He added that the ROS also recognised him as the acting president of the party.
However, Palanivel had cast doubts on the authenticity of the said letter and laughed at a reporter's suggestion that Subramaniam was now the acting president.
"Dr Subramaniam... acting president? How can he be the acting president when I am the president?" said Palanivel.
Palanivel later revealed that the meeting that he chaired had made three resolutions, which includes a resolution that the five MIC members who sought a court order to overturn the ROS decision to force fresh CWC election were still party members.
The five members, which includes Palanivel, were unsuccessful in their bid to challenge the ROS order.
Subramaniam's faction had argued that Palanivel and the four others had ceased to be MIC members for bringing party matters to court.
Article 19 of the MIC constitution stipulates that any MIC member who did so would automatically cease to be party members.
