Haron Din: G18 split will only benefit ‘rival’

PAS spiritual leader Haron Din has warned its disgruntled progressives that breaking away from PAS would only work to the benefit of unnamed “rivals” and weaken the Islamic movement.

According to The Star today, he warned the group known as G18 that leaving the party would lead to their ultimate demise.

“Goats are relatively safe when they stick with the herd. But those who leave the herd risk being gobbled up by wolves,” he was reported saying.

“By going separate ways, they are not only causing a split in the party, but also weakening the Islamic movement.

“Their action will only benefit our rivals,” The Star quoted Haron saying.

Following the progressives near complete obliteration from the party’s top leadership at the muktamar early this month, there has been increasing talk of the defeated leaders forming a new party .

He reminded the defeated leaders that PAS is not driving them away but it is they who want to leave, and that their party memberships would thereafter be revoked.

Claiming to be still on “friendly terms” and seeing no reason for the progressives to want to part ways, Haron warned of failure in the next general election.

“Islam does not allow us to be divided as it will only weaken us. We will fail.

“We will only see the impact when we face our rivals during the election,” he is reported saying.
