Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today warned Malaysians Muslims not to be too open, nor too extreme.

"Islam teaches us to be moderate, not too extreme, or too ' longgar ' (open).

"There is no need for gay parades, that is too longgar .

"There's also no need to be too extreme, meaning we must reject Islamic State's ideology, because it is against Islam, human rights, and moral values," he said.

Najib said this in a speech at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) before breaking fast with the police and Home Ministry staff.

Rights of homosexuals have recently become a global hot topic after the US Supreme Court ruled that same sex marriages are legal in all 50 states.

This spurred many gay rights supporters to include a rainbow tint to their social media profile pictures, to symbolise their support of the LGBT movement.

On the other hand, the Islamic State is a movement which is governing parts of Syria and Iraq. Its influences is also growing in other Middle-Eastern countries.

The group is known for their brutality, often executing unarmed prisoners of war and is reported to be selling women as spoils of war.

"What reason can one have to kill innocents? Islam forbids the killing of civilians during war, what more then during peace times," Najib said.

He then thanked the police force for maintaining peace and harmony in the country.

"Alhamdulillah, there has been no ideological violence in our country.

"There has been no occurrence of IS here, Alhamdulillah, because of the police's role," he said.
