Jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim does not want his supporters to worry about him and has called on them to  focus on their observance of Ramadan.

“Thank you but don’t worry, I am resilient, insyaAllah. I ask that my friends focus on their observance of Ramadan.

“Make lots of prayers and focus on handling the rising cost of goods especially come Hari Raya,” Anwar said when asked how he was at the Sungai Buloh Prison today.

This reply was posted on his Facebook page - which is now believed to be overseen by a family member, though this could not be confirmed today.

Anwar’s response comes as part of a campaign launched by PKR on June 30, dubbed #ApaKhabarAnwar (How are you, Anwar).

The campaign comes after worries of Anwar’s family members over his health mounted.

Anwar’s lawyer R Sivarasa ( photo ) had said that the 68-year old suffered irregular blood pressure , a 4cm growth on his kidney, a torn ligament on his shoulder and chronic arthritis. Anwar has also lost 6kg in weight since he was imprisoned.

As such, Sivarasa and a lawyer from the Freedom Now organisation, Jared Genser, had urged that Anwar be placed under house arrest instead so that he could receive treatment for the ailments.

PKR parliamentarian N Surendran, who is also one of Anwar’s lawyers, today urged the authorities to speed up in providing proper medical treatment for the veteran politician.

“We want him to be re-warded and a CT scan administered on him. But until now, we are still waiting (for the procedures to be carried out).

“During the two days he was at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, they conducted checks, on him but these were not enough," he said.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak ordered the relevant parties to provide the necessary medical treatment for Anwar.

However, Najib remained mum on the suggestion by Anwar's lawyer that he be placed under house arrest in view of his deteriorating condition and to allow for regular medical treatment for Anwar.
