Salleh sues former NFC consultant for defamation

National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFC) executive chairperson Mohamad Salleh Ismail today filed a suit against the company’s former consultant, Shamsubahrin Ismail, over Facebook postings which allegedly defamed him.

Mohamad Salleh filed the defamation suit through the legal firm of Messrs Al Firdaus Syed Ismat at the office of the High Court Registrar.

In the statement of claim, Mohamad Salleh stated that Shamsubahrin had uploaded six statements containing defamatory words against him (Mohamad Salleh) on a Facebook account belonging to Shamsubahrin Ismail Tom between last May 19 and June 23 this year which could be accessed by the public.

Mohamad Salleh claimed the statements were posted after Shamsubahrin was sentenced to eight years’ jail and four strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court last May 18 for cheating and money-laundering.

He stated that Shamsubahrin had claimed being made a scapegoat and was convicted for the offences by the court as a way for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the Malaysian government to protect him (Mohamad salleh), as well as to enable the attorney-general to drop the charges for criminal breach of trust facing the plaintiff.

Mohamad Salleh claimed that the defamatory words implied that he had colluded with his wife, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, to influence Sessions Court judge Rozilah Salleh to convict Shamsubahrin.

He said the words also implied that he had influenced the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption commission and the Attorney-General’s Chambers to not take legal action against him.

He is seeking general and aggravated damages, costs and orders deemed fit by the court.

Mohamad Salleh is also seeking an injunction to prevent Shamsubahrin or his agents from further publishing the alleged defamatory words.
