Guilt - 'same requirements for both Anwar and Najib'

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has chosen to distance himself from condemning Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over recent claims that he siphoned money from the beleaguered 1MDB.

Hadi was quoted in Astro Awani as saying that just like jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case, there must be just witnesses in claims involving Najib.

Hadi said Najib is not an “angel but an ordinary human being” and the allegations of financial embezzlement against him must be verified.

“Our stand is that of Islam. If Anwar’s sodomy claims must have four witnesses, the same goes for Najib, there must be witnesses, fair witnesses,” he was quoted as saying by the TV station.

“We follow the foundations of Islam, we support good attitudes, the bad ones we oppose,” he added when met at a terawih prayers do in Kota Baru last night.

Allegations 'illogical'

He was asked to comment on PAS spiritual adviser ( photo, seated ) Haron Din’s remarks about Najib which were widely seen as supportive of the PM.

Najib was recently featured in a Wall Street Journal ( WSJ ) report which alleged that US$700 million from 1MDB was channeled into his private bank accounts in 2013, before the 13th national polls.

Although Najib is mulling a criminal defamation suit against the US-based financial paper, its editors stand by the report, saying the claims are based on documents revealed by Malaysian investigators.

Haron has described the allegations as “illogical”, but urged for the matter to be probed.
