PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang allegedly "humiliated" PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim during the Selangor menteri besar crisis last year, a senior PKR leader revealed today.
While PKR election director Saifuddin Nasution Ismail did not mention Hadi by name, he appeared to be referring to a meeting between Anwar and the PAS president in Terengganu on Aug 11 last year.
"I still remember the moment when I accompanied Anwar to meet him, and how Anwar was humiliated with language that was truly abusive.
"The discussion was stopped, he left. Two of his companions present apologised and said he had only taken his medication," Saifuddin said in a Facebook posting.
Saifuddin was at that time PKR secretary-general and had accompanied Anwar to seek a resolution to the Selangor menteri besar crisis with Abdul Hadi.
"I and Anwar took our leave. Such a 'beautiful character'," added Saifuddin.
The posting immediately prompted a quarrel between supporters of Hadi and Anwar, in the comment section.
Some commenters began pouring scorn on Hadi, while others said PKR was to be blamed for initiating the Kajang Move with the intention of removing then Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
‘Hadi no angel’
Saifuddin did not jump into the reactions, but went on to elaborate on the meeting, even borrowing a phrase from Hadi's recent remarks.
"The one present was me. The one who personally saw and heard the insults was me.
"Those who say they know better weren't there. But yet they go all out to defend (Hadi)... he is no angel," said Saifuddin ( left ).
The reference follows Hadi’s comment on Tuesday that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was no angel but a mere human, and therefore accusations against the prime minister should be backed up with witnesses.
The PAS president was referring to the investigation into allegations that RM2.6 billion in state funds were deposited into Najib’s private bank accounts.
Hadi has since come under criticism from other opposition leaders for going soft on an arch rival, despite the seriousness of the allegations.
Saifuddin concluded his take on the Anwar-Hadi meeting by saying, "How do I describe that moment?
"He was extremely hostile and Anwar was extremely polite."
