The High Court today postponed its decision on the RM100-million defamation suit brought by Anwar Ibrahim against Foreign Minister Anifah Aman.
The postponement was made by Judicial Commissioner Siti Khadijah S Hassan Badjenid in chambers after Anifah’s lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, requested to make further submission on the case.
Also present was Anwar’s lawyer, Razlan Hadri Zulkifli, who told reporters that the court set July 30 to hear the submission.
Anwar filed the suit against Anifah and the Malaysian government on May 27, 2009, alleging that the minister’s remarks at a media conference in Washington, where the then US secretary of state Hillary Clinton was present, had tarnished his image.
Anwar accused Anifah of having depicted him as a person who was unfit to hold political or any other post, and dangerous to Malaysian society.
Anwar also alleged that Anifah’s remarks, which he claimed were widely reported in the local and foreign media, had cast imputations on his character and directly and indirectly portrayed him as unethical, unprincipled and corrupt.
