YOURSAY ‘If you get the wrong wife, you may need to make more monies.’
Siti Hasmah: No need to compete with hubby
Mosquitobrain:
You can easily identify between a fake and genuine 'berlian' (diamond) here. Even though without 'berlian', a simple, warm and caring attitude will be enough to make you shine and be more outstanding than 'others'.
Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, good health and best wishes to you.
Unspin: In case anyone has not noticed, Siti Hasmah, when accompanying Dr Mahathir Mohamad on official functions, was always several steps behind her husband.
We cannot say the same for the current self-proclaimed First Lady of Malaysia (FLOM). Often times, she is one or two steps ahead of her husband.
Transformasi: Siti Hasmah is of Minangkabau descent and comes from an illustrious, aristocratic bloodline.
Two of her brothers were head of the Armed Forces and governor of Bank Negara. A medical doctor herself, Siti Hasmah's marriage to Mahathir gave him entry into the top echelons of Malay society, paving the way for his rise to power.
Although her public conduct has been exemplary, she is thoroughly genteel and finds it hard to identify with the working class.
As such, she is very much part of the feudal power structure - unlike Singapore-born Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who shares opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's more egalitarian vision of social justice and his genuine love for the world of books and ideas.
I would personally prefer to see Kak Wan serve as a new emblem of national unity, for she represents all the noble qualities that are sorely lacking among the Umno elite - intelligence coupled with compassion and an innate refinement unrelated to material wealth.
Np: It is important to find the right wife. If you get the wrong one, you may need to work very hard trying to make more money.
Some in the process of trying to make more money may even allegedly commit criminal acts in order to satisfy her insatiable greed for expensive goods.
JD Lovrenciear: My experience in working with your inspired presence and guidance on Malaysia's first anti-dadah hotline way back in the early 1980s left an indelible mark of honour and respect for you. You are an icon that this nation has been blessed with.
Baiyuensheng: Siti Hasmah has had my respect and admiration for as long as I can remember. A true soulmate to her husband and a true patriot of Malaysia.
Mafeeah: As far as I can remember, Siti Hasmah was the least controversial among the various PM’s wives.
Legit: I have a personal experience with this humble lady. She is a gem and a good example of how a wife of the prime minister should be.
Progressive: Why is Malaysiakini making Mahathir a hero? Have we forgotten all his misdeeds - corruption, scandals, MAS rip-off, sacking of judges, 1986 Internal Security Act (ISA) detention of 106 opponents of Mahathir, and The Star shut down.
Najib Abdul Razak is not an angel, but he is an angel if compared to Mahathir.
Siti Hasmah stood behind Mahathir in all these misdeeds (probably as a wife there is nothing else but that to do?). But then don't make an angel out of her, too. This nation of ours is still paying for the misdeeds of Mahathir.
Gerard Lourdesamy: The article is not about whether Mahathir is a saint or Najib is a sinner or both are devils. This article is about the role of the prime minister's wife, which Siti Hasmah has exemplified in many respects.
The prime minister's wife must be seen but not heard, that is the prerogative of her husband as an elected official.
She must also, like Caesar's wife, be above suspicion. Unfortunately, the present incumbent is nothing like this but more like a reincarnation of the ill-fated Queen Marie Antoinette of France, who eventually lost her head.
BBC tickled into reporting 1MDB humour
Vent: Sad indeed! We only make international headlines for the wrong reasons. But Umno should be heartened we do have a few towering Malays there.
Tok Karut: We are not making news because we are a ‘moderate Muslim’ country, that's for sure.
We are in the news as we count as one among the ever-increasing numbers of corrupt, ill-governed third world failed states.
Jaded: At least, it is highlighting the sense of humour of Malaysians in this otherwise sad, demoralising and depressing situation that is making the lives of the everyday people hard.
Haveagreatday: Now that BBC has mocked the 1MDB scandal with parody movie titles, will the rakyat still be subject to jail terms if we join in the fun on social media?
Anonymous_1404717623: Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), now how?
Dizzer: Funniest headline was in fakemalaysianews.com: 'Fitch gives PM Najib's bank account a AAA rating'!
