Jailed opposition figure Anwar Ibrahim had received an invitation to attend Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's open house event on Friday and netizens are not amused by this.

Anwar's official Facebook page uploaded the invitation card, which states his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail first, perhaps because she is the PKR president and parliamentary opposition leader.

Many Facebook users accused Najib's minders of adding insult to injury by inviting Anwar, who is serving a five-year jail sentence for sodomising a former aide.

Many of the commenters blamed Najib for Anwar's jailing in the first place.

"Ini semua lakonan semata2...nak tunjukan pada rakyat malaysia yg dia baiklah konon.” (He is putting on a show, to prove to Malaysians he is a good man), wrote Syed Abdillah Al-Attas.

"Senang dia masukkan DSAI di Sg. Buluh… bila menjelang raya… buat2 jemput kerumah beliau di Putrajaya.” (It was easy for him for jail DSAI (Anwar). But as Hari Raya nears, he invites him to Putrajaya, wrote Pak Su loi.

Many say don't accept the invitation

Unfortunately, several commenters also appear to believe that the invitation meant that Anwar could spend a few hours outside of jail and advised him not to accept it.

"Tak wajib hadir… peringatan pancing, untuk kurangkan kemarahan rakyat pada Umno.” (there is no need to attend. He is fishing to reduce the people's anger towards Umno), wrote Md Lami.

"Ni mereka nak hina Anwar la… mereka tahu Anwar dalam penjara akibat perbuatan mereka sendiri, tapi masih lagi 'buat-buat' dan jemput beraya… Karma itu ada.” (They are trying to insult Anwar. They know Anwar is in jail due to their own doing. But they still 'act' and invite him. There will be karma), wrote Pius K Francis Pius.

"Tu perangkap. Lepas pergi, esok Jibby buat laporan polis bahawa dia kena liwat.” (It is a trap. By attending, Jibby will lodge a police report stating that he was sodomised), wrote Kelvin Yong.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister's Office explained that Najib's invitation to Anwar was a "protocol mistake".

Spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad was quoted in Malay Mail Online said that, the invitation was meant for Anwar's wife and Opposition Leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
