Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) pledge to remain steadfast in uncovering the truth relating to 1MDB has earned a thumbs-up from Nazir Razak, the brother of the prime minister.

In an Instagram post early today, the chairman of CIMB group commended BNM’s stand which was made in a statement issued yesterday.

"Bank Negara Malaysia remains steadfast.... and will not betray the trust of the public.

"Great statement – timely, firm and unambiguous," he said.

Last Saturday,  Malaysia Today  blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin ( photo ) alleged three BNM senior officers were under investigation by authorities following the leak of 'sensitive information’ to the Wall Street Journal.

However BNM denied these allegations a day after the blogger's claim.

BNM said they had lodged a police report as the allegations were without any basis whatsoever.

"Bank Negara Malaysia remains steadfast in our quest to uncovering the truth in a fair and just manner.

"In discharging its accountability, the bank is not aligned to any faction and will not betray the trust of the public.

"Bank Negara Malaysia will also investigate any breaches to the laws it administers," BNM said in is statement.

BNM said it has the full support from the authorities in its commitment to the special task force.

Leaked documents

The Wall Street Journal  and  Sarawak Report  had published a series of reports alleging that RM2.6 billion had been deposited into Najib's personal accounts.

Sarawak Report  had also published an expose alleging that Najib's wife, Rosmah Mansor ( photo ), had RM2 million banked into her account through multiple transactions earlier this year.

These claims were backed up by leaked documents, which include bank account numbers.

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar revealed today that police were probing leaked documents relating to 1MDB.

Those in the special task force as well as BNM's officials will be investigated.

The task force is led by Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail. Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed and Khalid make up the other members.

Khalid said the leaks, doctored or otherwise, were offences under the Financial Services Act, the Islamic Financial Services Act, the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and the Penal Code.

He said they could also be constituted as economic sabotage, and warned that those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
