Mahfuz: PAS must leave S'gor, Penang gov'ts

PAS needs to make a decision immediately to withdraw from the Selangor and Penang state governments, its former information chief Mahfuz Omar said.

The Islamic party must do so lest they be seen as hypocrites, he said, since the PAS syura council had approved the motion put forth in its muktamar last month to cut ties with DAP.

"I urge the party to make a decision to withdraw. If it doesn’t do so, the people will see PAS as a hypocrite," he reportedly said in Sinar Harian today.

Meanwhile, Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad is confident that the Selangor state government is still a Pakatan government.

He said in a statement yesterday there had been no announcements by the top leaders of Pakatan that the coalition's Selangor state government does not exist anymore.

“PAS is still committed to Pakatan and this is a matter that was stressed upon in the muktamar. The decision by the syura council recently also does not mean that PAS is out of Pakatan," said Iskandar, who is also a PAS vice-president.

According to him, this means that PAS does not need to withdraw from the Selangor state government, seeing as the Islamic party is still cooperating with PKR. However if PAS does leave Pakatan, then it might have to do that, he asserted.
