Police disallow Sadia procession in Kuching
The police have decided not to allow the Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) to go ahead with a procession planned for July 22 in the city.
Sarawak police chief Muhammad Sabtu Osman said today the decision was made in the public interest.
“Sadia is not allowed to hold the procession on July 22, 2015. This is in view of the fact that the route it planned to use are roads in the middle of the city.
“Any such procession will cause massive traffic jams besides disrupting daily routines and will be a transgression of the people’s right,” he said in a statement.
The police, he said, will enforce the law strictly.
Peter John Jaban of Sadia had said recently that the procession was to mark Sarawak’s independence from British colonial rule on July 22, 1963.
“It is to show our solidarity to the state. We expect some 5,000 people in a convoy of motorcars, motorcycles, bicycles and four-wheel-drive vehicles to join in,” he had said.
