Harapan is PAS 'dream team' for new M'sia

YOURSAY ‘Long is the road, and heavy the burden that Harapan shoulders.’

Harapan Baru - new entity for defeated PAS group

Speaking Sense: What is now important is for Harapan Baru to make clear that while its members are motivated by Islamic principles, it is not the aim of the new party to impose Islamic law or rule on the country.

We need to be confident Harapan Baru recognises the difference between a political party fighting for the good of all citizens, and a religious organisation committed to its religious beliefs.

Both are justifiable aims but cannot be mixed together, as the current confused PAS leadership has done. If Harapan Baru can do this, then Pakatan Rakyat 2.0 will be the new hope for all Malaysians.

I Wonder?: Yes, form a truly democratic and inclusive Islamic-based party for all moderate and progressive Malaysians of various races and religions to join.

In particular, to provide an immediate new home cum platform and hope for the vast majority of disgruntled PAS moderate grassroot members, who are extremely frustrated and who feel cheated and betrayed by their present ‘Umno-Trojan’ leadership.

This new party should be able to replace the ungrateful PAS in the new Pakatan Baru to smoothly take over most of its territories.

RCZ: We have ‘harapan’ in you, Harapan. As long as you remain true to your policies that will benefit all Malaysians and not certain sectors or groups, you have my support.

Our country is in a deep mess and mired with corruption and bad policies and we are sick to the core. Team up with like-minded people and set this right, please.

Quigonbond: This can actually work if PAS grassroots are happy to work with Pakatan. But Harapan Baru must ensure in its constitution that it will never go the Taliban way and then declare this to Malaysians as such.

Sadirah: What has PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and all the ulama done to bring up issues of substance except of hudud and religious sentiments?

They have neither the capacity nor the capability to handle power in a progressive Malaysia.

Well done, Mat Sabu. There is a need for a more inclusive face of Islam and hopefully you and your team will provide that and be a conscience for the Muslims.

Prushothman: Mat Sabu, we are here to support your party - good luck and all the very best to your team of professionals.

Baiyuensheng: I’m more skeptical on whether they can pull it off. They are not visible among the rural Malay folk, who hold the country's voting power. A party takes time to mature and gain a following.

Look, it took DAP more than 50 years since independence to have some sort of meaningful hold on people. PKR took several years.

Sleepy: Not everyone will see eye-to-eye with this NGO/group/party - that is democracy. For me, I see light at the end of the tunnel and sincerely hope success will come.

JD Lovrenciear: Having known some of you in this new lineup (as I taught you all some years ago on with what little know-how I was blessed with), I can and pray to wish you all the best in the way forward.

Yes, His Blessings upon mankind for all eternity. No religion has a unilateral right to demonise or diminish non-believers.

Paul Warren: PAS is steering an old, dilapidated bus that has gone well past its use-by date. Anyone forming any new party has to think beyond the present and what is available now or from history. We need a new kind of vehicle to take on BN. Not the old and tardy one.

NC: There is a written agreement/oath between political parties and their representatives whereby the reps will tender their resignation as MPs if they quit the party (or form another new party).

They won before on PAS tickets so it is fitting for them to tender their resignation. No two ways about that - unless they do not practise what they preach.

SSS: Indeed, G18 should quit from PAS and resign from their existing MP posts. Like DAP always said, if PAS members do not like DAP, resign from Penang state posts. Be men.

Then contest under the new party (Lost Hope Party). Since you guys love DAP so much, follow whatever DAP says.

NC: Are we ready for multiple by-elections? Can Parit Buntar, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, take the lead to give up their MP status?

Not Convinced: Don’t forget that there’s a catch - under a law introduced by then PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, any MP or state rep who resigns from his or her post will be banned from contesting for five years.

Sontotsia: This is the PAS dream team for a greater Malaysia. Long is the road, and heavy the burden that Harapan Baru shoulders.

However, the line-up is of highly respected Malaysians who have always stood by the people, and have demonstrated Islam is a wonderful religion that gives hope to the people. Malaysia walks with you.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Be resolute and not waiver like the so-called "holy party". Take the trouble to understand the needs of a multi-racial society and the widening gap between the haves and the have-nots.

Lastly, the people want a party which they can trust. Good luck and god bless.
