The Terengganu PAS liaison committee today described the leaders involved in setting up the New Hope Movement (GHB) Party as a group disappointed over their electoral loss in PAS last month.

Terengganu PAS commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat said he observed that the GHB comprised only former PAS leaders and old faces but no new leaders.

"No concrete arguments were forthcoming for the setting up of the GHB except to become leaders. It would have been better for them to join DAP or PKR.

"Their presence is only going to bring about three-cornered contests, among PAS, BN (Barisan Nasional) and GHB, and give BN victory and disappoint PAS' desire to topple the BN in the next general election," he told Bernama when asked to comment on the GHB.

Former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu announced the launch of the new party last Monday. He is the chairperson of the GHB pro-tem committee.

Among those in the committee are former Selangor menteri besar

Muhammad Muhamad Taib; former PAS secretary-general Kamaruddin Jaafar; former PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub and former PAS senior leaders such as Khalid Samad; Mohd Hatta Ramli and Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

Satiful Bahri said the former PAS leaders had betrayed PAS by setting up the new party and trying to entice PAS members.

"PAS will not turn back. We will contest in the seats now held by the DAP because the 'tahaluf siyasi' (political cooperation) between PAS and DAP is no more," he said.

The PAS syura council has given its approval for the party to cut ties with DAP after the dewan ulama proposed a resolution to do just that at the party's general assembly last month.
