Hadi's humiliation of Anwar saddens Kit Siang
Veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang said he felt bad about the treatment PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim received from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang at a meeting during the Selangor menteri besar crisis last year.
"I felt very bad when I read the recent account by (PKR election director) Saifuddin Nasution Ismail about how Anwar was humiliated by Hadi.
"(This is because) it was DAP who persuaded a very reluctant Anwar to go to Terengganu to meet with Hadi," he said in a statement today.
Last Friday, Saifuddin had revealed that Anwar was "humiliated with language that was truly abusive", though he did not mention Hadi by name.
At that time, Saifuddin was PKR secretary-general and had accompanied Anwar to seek a resolution to the Selangor menteri besar crisis with Hadi.
"How do I describe that moment? He was extremely hostile and Anwar was extremely polite," Saifuddin had said of the Anwar-Hadi meeting.
Be principled and civil
Lim then reminded DAP leaders to always be principled and civil, unlike the actions of the current PAS leaders.
"DAP should not follow the example of PAS leaders who are emulating Umno tactics and strategies to attack and demonise the DAP," he said.
Shocked that Hadi accused DAP of being "chauvinistic" while former PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali accused the PAS progressives as "proxies of DAP", he insisted that DAP leaders must always set a good example.
