75 days after  a blog revealed Lembaga Tabung Haji's controversial purchase of 1MDB's Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) plot, people are still in the dark as to purported plans to dispose of the land.

Former News Straits Times editor in chief A Kadir Jasin today lambasted Tabung Haji chairperson Abdul Azeez Rahim for "lying to the people" after promising the public that the land would be sold at a profit immediately following a high profile press conference in May.

In that press conference, Azeez revealed that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had "advised" the board to sell off the land to "ease people's mind" after the leaked exposed it had paid a huge premium on the land.

Although Azeez during the press conference claimed there were three offers for the land and was confident the fund could make back 100 percent of its outlay, no concrete plans have been announced to date of any sale.

"Every day that goes by without the land being sold is akin to Abdul Azeez lying to the people and going against the prime minister.

"The truth is, given the rising controversy in 1MDB, not many want to touch the land.

"Furthermore, there are also lots of land in TRX which have yet to be sold," Kadir said in his blog posting today.

43 times over cost

Controversy erupted when on May 5 a blogger revealed that Tabung Haji had purchased two plots of land at the TRX - one for RM194 million (RM2,860 psf), and the other for RM578 million (RM3,900 psf).

Tabung Haji three days later denied the allegation , but admitted to buying a single plot of land worth RM188.5 million, and that it was to be developed as a residential building.

Based on Tabung Haji's statement, it was deduced that the land bought by the funds was actually RM 2,779 psf, roughly 43 times the original price paid by 1MDB in 2012, which had acquired it from the government at RM 74.2 psf.
