The Edge says it is ready to defend its reports

The Edge is ready to defend its articles on 1MDB in court, even if it is yet to be sued for anything.

"We are prepared to go to court to defend what we have published, but till today no one has taken us to court.

"We stand by what we have published. We would like to repeat what we have said before and that is we stand by all the articles we have published on Jho Low and 1MDB," the financial daily said in an editorial note today.

The note accompanied a story on 1MDB's statement yesterday, which slammed The Edge for alleged 'irresponsible reporting'.

Yesterday , The Edge Financial Daily published a detailed, four-page expose, claiming that Jho Low and PetroSaudi International had siphoned RM1.83 billion from 1MDB through the 1MDB-PetroSaudi joint venture company.

'Recycled allegations'

1MDB has denied the allegations made in the report as unsubstantiated and recycled allegations.

It said if The Edge was willing to cooperate with the authorities, it should not sensationalise the matter.

The financial daily has said it would hand over all its data on 1MDB to the investigators who are looking into claims that accusations towards the investment firm had been based on tampered documents.

1MDB is under intensive scrutiny after racking up RM42 billion in debt over five years.

Besides allegedly being used by Low to siphon RM1.83 billion in government funds, 1MDB subsidiaries have also been implicated in a scandal where RM2.6 billion had been supposedly deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts.
