'DAP grip stronger on S'gor if PAS reps join GHB'
The move by some Selangor PAS assemblypersons to join Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) will only strengthen the position of the DAP in the state government, said Selangor UMNO liaison chairperson Noh Omar.
He said this was because GHB was seen to be pro-DAP, which would only affect the position of Mohamed Azmin Ali from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) as Selangor Menteri Besar.
"We can see that Pakatan Rakyat cannot make their own stand without the influence of the DAP in order to gain support.
"This is what is happening in Selangor. DAP holds the majority while PAS is now in turmoil, so it is predicted that Azmin ( photo ) will govern the state government by proxy," he told reporters in Tanjung Karang, Selangor, today in response to the formation of the GHB.
Morib and Hulu Kelang assemblypersons Hasnul Baharuddin and Saari Sungib, along with Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, were reported as saying that they would join the newly-formed movement.
DAP and PAS have 15 seats each in the Selangor state assembly while PKR has 13 seats.
BN, which is the opposition in the state, has 12 seats while the last remaining seat is held by an independent.
In KOTA BHARU, PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah ( photo ) called on PAS elected representatives mulling joining GHB to state clearly their intentions.
"They owe this to the people who elected them and to avoid being ridiculed by society. Silence is not an option," he told reporters in Kota Baru today.
The Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar was commenting on speculation that three PAS assemblypersons in Kelantan, namely Dr Nik Mazian Nik Mohamad (Pasir Puteh), Mohd Zaki Ibrahim (Kelaboran), and Mohd Rozi Mohamad (Tendong), would be joining GHB.
However, the trio have denied this.
In SHAH ALAM, Dewan Ulama PAS Selangor information head Kamalulhysham Mohd Suhut urged PAS elected representatives in the state who wanted to join GHB to vacate their seats.
"This they must do to uphold their dignity," he said in a statement posted on the wing's Facebook account.
