Perwaja Steel director charged with violating IRB rules

A director of Perwaja Steel Sdn Bhd was charged in the Kemaman magistrate's court today with allegedly violating Inland Revenue Board regulations.

According to a statement from the law firm of Gan and Zul, a report by Bernama had erroneously stated that Perwaja director Pheng Yin Huah, 67, was charged with criminal breach of trust whereas in fact he was charged with allegedly violating 17 counts of Inland Revenue Board regulations.

Pheng was not present and was represented by his legal adviser, Victor Teoh, who claimed trial to the charge.

During the proceedings before Magistrate Rofiah Mohamad, Teoh also requested for the matter to be settled out of court.

The alleged offence was discovered following an audit visit by the Kuala Terengganu IRB on June 25 last year.

The prosecution was conducted by IRB prosecuting officers, Mohd Arif Zaini and Zulhasymi Mohammad.

The court set Aug 24 for mention.
