Booklets from the Department of Special Affairs (Jasa) were distributed to delegates at Seremban Umno's annual general meeting (AGM) today, explaining the scandal faced by party president Najib Razak.
Two booklets were handed out, one was a 50-page professionally-produced '22 Najib's Answers' by Jasa and the Communication and Multimedia Ministry.
The other was a simplified version with summarised answers on topics like former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad's attacks, and explanation of criticisms against Najib which include issues such as 1MDB and the Goods and Services Tax.
All the answers appear to be lifted from Najib's existing replies - including those posted on his blogs - with some elaboration and the inclusion of statistics drawn from various sources.
For example, one chapter was titled 'Allegation: It is not wrong to ask PM to resign as the state of the country is more chaotic than before'.
The booklet explained that the "chaotic situation now is in part, caused by Mahathir's attacks as he is reusing the opposition's slander and lies".
It incorporated Najib's past explanations that Mahathir did not have the internet to deal with during the latter's premiership.
"(During Mahathir's time) any controversy that arose from either his or his government's action would take weeks, if not months, to develop [...].
"The word 'viral' (to spread quickly via the internet) was almost non-existent during his administration.
"(Mahathir) clearly has been influenced by the democratisation of information in the social media, where all the information, even if it's wrong, is considered the truth," explained the Jasa booklet.
