The People's Progressive Party (PPP) will be given a facelift with a new name and a change of logo as part of its rebranding in October, said its president M Kayveas said today.

He said it was aimed to revitalise party members to move forward in the service of the people.

"Based on our discussions with (party) supreme council members, we are of the view that the time has come for this party to make transformation in terms of rebranding, namely change of name, logo and slogan to introduce ourselves to the public.

"This matter (rebranding) will be conveyed to the Barisan Nasional (BN) supreme council meeting soon," he told reporters after chairing a PPP supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Kayveas said PPP will take two months to undertake the rebranding process.

"We discuss this through meetings at the branch, division and state level besides taking into account their ideas to change the logo and name of the party," he said.

New appointments

Meanwhile Kayveas said the party has about 600,000 members nationwide up until this month and more new members were expected to join it by year's end.

Kayveas also announced the appointment of two new vice-presidents, an information chief and two PPP supreme council members.

They are Perak PPP chairman, Ong Chee Keng and supreme council member, Datuk Seri M. Gandi who were appointed as PPP vice- presidents; Andrew Tiong Yap Choon as information chief; Syed Al Kadir Hassan Syed Al Abdul and M. Punitha as PPP supreme council members. - Bernama
