YOURSAY ‘Abdul Rahman, best to clarify the donation, its purpose, how it was used.’
'Game over' if PM said RM2.6b was corruption
Mah Kau Fan: BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan says things that really damages premier Najib Abdul Razak although his intentions are clearly quite the opposite.
Just consider these statements:
1) "Of course the prime minister will say it's not corruption. If he said that, it is game over." With this, Abdul Rahman inadvertently confirmed it was corruption.
2) He cited Saudi prince Alwaleed Talal, who is donating his US$32 billion fortune to philanthropic causes.
Abdul Rahman, are you suggesting that donating to Najib is a philanthropic cause?
If Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor get to read what you dished out, they will cringe at your statements. But then again, they may not, as they value loyalty more.
Well Thats Fantastic: First, Najib is not a philanthropic cause. And of course, BN will say the RM2.6 billion is not corruption, because if it is admitted, it is immediately game over.
We all assume it is already game over because the questions we ask are never answered.
Telestai!: Abdul Rahman, all of us know it is game over for Najib. It is Umno that is refusing to accept the reality.
Pray tell, how do you expect us to believe that a rich Arab will donate US$700 million to a Malaysian prime minister? Arabs may be known to be benevolent but Najib is hardly destitute.
We also know that Arabs do not bribe their way into getting business because they have oil flowing out of their ears. They have no interest in doing business unless it’s easy pickings. Still insist it is a donation?
WDA: What's your point, Abdul Rahman? Of course, Najib is not going to say it is corruption. Just because he doesn't say so, doesn't mean it is not.
It is very rare for a criminal to vouch for the crime he or she has committed, especially when the consequences are going to be great, or "game over" as you put it.
Anonymous #37634848: Can you, Abdul Rahman, explain who was the donor, the purpose of the donation, and how the RM2.6 billion was disbursed? That would be a better strategic option.
Anonymous #44199885: There was no politicking regarding the investigation, only interference of the highest order into the people and institutions tasked with that responsibility.
The truth would have come out long ago had it not been for the sacking of the attorney-general, deputy prime minister, an Umno vice-president and the promotion of BN Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members to the cabinet.
Hytan: For someone to donate such huge sums of money, he is (or must have been) a very successful businessman/investor, otherwise how can he have so much wealth to donate.
The donor must have also acquired wide experience dealing with people in other sectors of the society, both locally and internationally. He must be a successful and well-known person. Hence, he should not be unfamiliar with political parties and their workings.
So, is the donor so naive to donate to a political party by crediting the money into the personal account of an individual and not into the bank account of the political party?
If the donor does not know the bank account of the political party, surely he would have asked for it prior to instructing his bank to remit the donation. We were not born yesterday.
Abdul Rahman, just one question. Was Najib the prime minister of Malaysia when the donation was credited into his personal bank accounts?
If yes, he is guilty of corruption as he is a public officer under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) laws.
That is why Najib does not want to answer the simple question of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ if the donation was in his personal bank accounts when it was first reported by The Wall Street Journal .
It is game over for Najib. Period.
Dizzer: It's instructive that there are only three or four Umno big shots publicly supporting Najib - Abdul Rahman, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Mahdzir Khalid.
Even Khairy and the PM’s cousin, Hishammuddin Hussein, are hedging their bets. I give Najib two to three months, but first he has to formulate an exit strategy.
Mind Power: Since Malaysia doesn't have any legal restrictions on this matter and Umno regulations allow the party president to be trustee, holding RM2.6 billion is not breaking any law.
Gotcha: So in short, civil servants can accept bribes in the future and when caught, they too can say it was a donation? Come on, wake up, and think if that is what we want.
Rick Teo: As a public servant, you are not supposed to receive donations and gifts because these are gratifications. Abdul Rahman, if you cannot even grasp such a basic principle, then you don't deserve to be a minister.
Scandalcountry: Ahmad Rahman can read up the MACC Act if he hasn’t. The answer is there.
