Langkawi Umno delegate Anina Saaduddin has countered allegations that she had been paid to criticse party president Najib Razak, saying she would be wealthy if that were true.

"I reject allegations I was paid. If I was paid, I would be living the high life now.

"I could take the plane wherever I go, stay in five star hotels and spend my time swimming.

"Now when I go back to Langkawi, I have to take the bus and the ferry," she told Malaysiakini when contacted.

The Umno delegate shot to notoriety this week when a video of her vitriolic speech at the Langkawi Wanita Umno division annual general meeting on Aug 9 went viral.

In her speech, Anina repeatedly said Umno president Najib Abdul Razak had " urinated " on the party in relation to the RM2.6 billion deposited into his personal bank accounts.

Earlier Free Malaysia Today reported Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos alleging that a party leader had paid Anina to badmouth her party president.

Meanwhile Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has warned that action will be taken against delegates whose speeches breached party ethics.

'What about Najib's wrongs?'

Anina however said she did not believe the party would take action, arguing that if they did so they should also do the same against Najib.

"I have been a Umno member since 1993. I've been a member for 20 years.

"I am confident and believe Umno would not take any action just because I criticse a party leader," she said.

"I am only conveying the voice of the grassroots. Actually, the party president's wrongs are far greater than mine," she said.
