Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said the Umno leader who was plotting to topple the government had finally seen the error of his ways.

Ahmad Zahid said this after yesterday accusing an unnamed Umno leader of trying to garner sufficient support among MPs from both sides of the divide to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak through the "back door".

"As of last night I was told that the individual concerned realised that his action was wrong.

"So he will he meeting the prime minister who is Umno president, on the matter this evening," he was quoted as saying by The Star Online .

Zahid, who is also home minister, said this while officiating the Tampin Umno annual general meeting.

His claim yesterday had set off a flurry of speculation, with Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin ( photo ) and Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh being forced to deny that they were out to topple the gov't.

Zahid today insisted that his information was correct.

"My information didn't come from the road side. It came from a person who was present when the evil plan was being conceived," he said.
